LCA, RUU/Copernicus Institute

The Utrecht University/Copernicus Institute executed a shortcut-LCA (Life cycle assessment) study to analyse the NRUE (non-renewable use of energy), REU (renewable use of energy) and GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions of a PaperFoam CD-case. The comparative environmental assessment studies also the Jewelpack and the Digipack. In all cases the study is from cradle-to-factory gate and the Ecoinvent database is used.

Conclusions RUU/Copernicus Institute:

“The comparative environmental assessment shows that PaperFoam® is by far the preferred choice in terms of NREU and GHG emissions. The NREU of the PaperFoam® case is about 1/10 compared to the Jewelpack and about 1/3 compared to the Digipack. The GHG emissions of the PaperFoam® case are about 85-90% lower compared to the Jewelpack and 55-75% lower than for the Digipack.”
